Mt Auburn Cemetery
Nov. 24th, 2005 10:47 amI made a solo excursion to Mt. Auburn Cemetery this morning. It's one of my favorite places in the city, but this morning in the 35 degree rain it lacked much of its charm. It's still beautiful, in a gloomy way, but I'll post some pictures of it in the spring and summer and show you how glorious it can be.

As well as being a final resting place for notable New Englanders and an arboretum, Mt. Auburn is also a gallery of memorial statuary.

It's also a world-reknown birding location, although today didn't make for very good birding.

I hoped to see a dusting of snow on everything, but the rain had washed almost all of it away.

There's a big hill in the cemetery, allowing a view of the city and surrounding towns.

Though it's primarily a place for the dead, I'm always drawn to the life here.
