Barn owls are great. They look like ghosts when you see them at night. It's like they're flying in slow motion (which I suppose is the effect of their famous silencing wing feathers).
Despite being the most widely distributed owl in the world, I've never seen a barn owl in the wild. They are rare in Massachusetts, nesting primarily on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard (neither of which I've ever been to.)
