HEY THERE A.L. THANKS FOR YOUR DONATION HERE'S THE GIRAFFE FEEDING POST!



This day's snapshot is the backs of zoo guests watching the giraffe family milling about.


Left to right we see Beau, Henrietta, and Jana.


Our daily giraffe encounters are a pretty amazing feature. I'm surprised more people don't take the opportunity to see these amazing animals up close. How close?


Pretty close. The zookeeper called Beau over, rattling a container of diced squash pieces to get the message across--food's on! I know I was supposed to get a pic of the big black tongue, but Beau ate very discreetly. I'll try to get a tongue pic some other time.


Nine guests came up for the encounter, and Beau took food from almost everyone. He was spooked by one of the guest's electric wheelchair, and left the platform. The zookeeper tried to call him back but he kept his distance. Jana is even more nervous, and never comes to the platform when there are guests there.

So cute, love the baby. :) I've gotten to feed them twice, from the back of a caravan truck, at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It's amazing having them leaning over your shoulder slurping up the leaves. Those tongues are insanely long, and slimy. :P I LOVE their eyes. And it brings home how tall they really are, when you are pretty high up to begin with and they still tower over you.
