A couple coworkers were alarmed by a large clumsy buzzing insect, fearing it to be a horse fly or stinging wasp. I went and picked it up: a dogday cicada at the end of its life.

I gave it to Kikipuff, who accessorized with it.

Speaking of accessorizing, fashion better get out of my way when I'm dressing to do battle with yellow jackets in the heat of the day! It's always better to treat yellow jacket nests in the cool of the night, but I gotta do these things when I'm on the clock, so moon suit it is.

I just saw those cool yellow aphids on a milkweed plant in the park last week, and wondered what on earth they were. Thank you!

It's always my pleasure!

the photos don't do them any justice, because it's the mesmerizing movement that makes them so fascinating to watch.

He's a nice bug (the "dodgy" - as I first read it - cicada). He looks like an art nouveau brooch. He makes a good accessory. Sad to hear he's on the way out.
