Sigmund the yellow-billed stork stands atop the structure that holds the mesh that excludes the larger birds and bats from entering the gorilla exhibit.

Once a year, the gorilla exhibit's mulch beds are removed, disinfected, and replaced. Barrels and barrels of dirty wood chips were removed before I showed up. They hosed off all the rockwork and were dealing with a large puddle in an area with no drain.

24 hours later and it's time to bring in the new mulch. I don't know how much a full barrel of wood chips weighs, but it's more than I could lift, and just dragging the barrels was a tremendous amount of work.

Hauling the full barrels over the beds that were already filled up was not easy.

It takes a lot of hard working people to run a zoo!
