It's the waning days of the cosmos. They still wave in the breeze, tricking me that a person is walking by the window when I'm in the kitchen internetting.

The bumblebees are some of the only insects still active. I see honeybees sometimes, and today was warm enough for dragonflies and little drifty things.

And while moving around some things in the yard I found two redbacks! Hadn't seen these little guys in a while.

Oooh! When I worked as a contractor (installing landscape lighting around people's homes), I used to run into the most amazing critters. Salamanders are the best!

Despite the photographic evidence, I somehow read the word "cosmos" in your first sentence not in the sense of a flower, but in the more Carl Sagan-ish sense. So the sentence "It is the waning days of the cosmos," seemed heavily portentous!

Thanks for the photos--it's fascinating to see all the forms of life in just one backyard.
