In case you haven't noticed, I'm momentarily obsessed with a certain band. Unfortunately, I keep writing their name incorrectly.

They are: The Darkest of The Hillside Thickets. My apologies for past instances writing "darkness" and omitting one of the "the"s. They are a Canadian concept band making music inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft.

I came to be aware of them on account of this song being available as Rock Band DLC:

I just bought their album "The Shadow Out of Tim" on the strength of the songs "Nyarlathotep" and "Marine Biologist" (best chorus ever? "He's got a bathyscape...!")

I'm trying very hard not to buy this t-shirt since I already have too many t-shirts and 25 dollars is too much even for one this spectacularly amazing. I would totally buy it at a live show, but I would have to go to Canada, since they refuse to cross into the US since our border security is obnoxious.

Members of the band are also involved in the Caustic Soda podcast, which I tried to listen to once and got annoyed with it. I'm going to try again.

I didn't know them before. That song is pleasantly punky.

I love Nyarlathotep!

Band tshirts are a pure ripoff alright. I was a great gig lately, and didn't buy one because it was £20, even though the gig was brilliant (Satyricon) and I would have liked a souvenir.

Why do guys always have so many t shirts? Here's an idea for what can be done with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbamYyYZobg

Hi, Toren here from The Thickets and Caustic Soda. I'm interested to know what episode of Caustic Soda you tried to listen to? I would suggest as a starting point the "Doomed Expeditions" or "Ghost Towns" or "Toys That Kill" episode.

You may be interested to know we are working on another album which we plan to record late next year, and we'll do a kickstarter for it with lots of cool perks/incentives. Keep an eye on thickets.net and our Facebook page.

Thanks!

Hi Toren! Thanks for stopping by!

I forget which episode I tried to listen to, but I know it was one that featured my friend Gavin Pitts as a guest. I think I was annoyed by a joke relating a natural history fact to some pop culture reference, which is just a pet peeve of mine. I've subscribed to Caustic Soda (will listen with an open mind I promise) and I follow Thickets on FB so I'm aware of the kickstarter. Gotta get into that when I'm feeling more financially steady.

The role playing game premise is mind-blowing.

I appreciate you engaging me over here! Best of luck with everything--I hope I can catch a show in Vancouver or something some time.

Hi again Toren,
Glad I've given Caustic Soda another chance, I'm getting into it. I liked the mummy and the hominin episodes. I realized I have short patience for podcasts that are mostly 3 guys trying to out-funny each other (finally dropped the nerdist, alas) but you guys have the editing down really well. I was literally one second from pausing the hominin one to listen to something else when it switched to the song and I settled in for the rest of the podcast.

My Thickets Pandora station also plays a lot of Monster Magnet and H.I.M. for some reason. Go figure.
