I let my beard get pretty big. It's hard to want to cut it when it's cold.

Wet muddy soil sometimes freezes into these ice spikes.

Wow, I've never seen Missouri soil do that. I'm sure it must have something to do with soil chemistry -- should have paid more attention in Soils class but they had so much boring Ag stuff that I kept dozing off.

i've always loved finding ice spikes like that in the backyard... we would often get them under a chunk of soil, sometimes you didnt see them right away, until you crunched on one nearby...

on a similar topic, i was trying to explain the concept of "frost heaves" to someone in texas the other day. They were completely baffled.
