Here's the gang from the June 15th mushroom walk! Another great batch of folks who really were engaged and interested and asked questions that showed that they were listening to me and cared what I said. I hope they take me up on my offer to answer any lingering questions or attempt to id any mushrooms they get good pictures of. I know I at least have to address the question of what mushrooms are the most dangerous to dogs in the yard.

I honestly took this photo to remind me when my next mushroom class is, but it might be of interest to people reading this blog.

Before every mushroom walk I take a trip around the land to give myself an idea of what's out there and what route will be most fruitful. This was the first time I encountered a snake on my pre-walk!

We found this little (2 cm) mushroom on a well-decayed log. From the top it looked like a young dryad's saddle but underneath it has gills, not pores. I went to The New England Regional Mushroom Identification Forum where moderator Dianna Smith identified it as Crepidotus.

As we worked our way back to the Nature Center I couldn't resist stopping to take a picture of a member of one of my other favorite taxa. This beautiful spider is an orchard orbweaver.

Hey mushroom students! Any lingering questions?
