Thursday was Zoo Day--the day that the conference delegates visit the host zoo. Here's a mob of zookeepers waiting to be let in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

We waited a long time, which I understand is a Disney tradition, so I found some mushrooms in a planter. We also saw a red-shouldered hawk, which I scared away by mistake.

Finally we scanned our tickets, got our fingerprints read, and entered the park. Pretty soon we encountered our first zoo animal, this wonderful little scorpion in a box.

This zookeeper is having the unusual experience of having a throng of zookeepers from other zoos ask her questions.

This white ibis is a non-collection animal, wetting its filthy beak in the parrot food.

This is what all zoo trash cans should look like: fully enclosed, metal, and clean.

It took a while, but we finally found our first megafauna: an American crocodile, in the "dinosaur" section of the park.

Mostly we found fake dinosaurs.

They made for good photo opportunities.

It seemed that actual animals were hard to come by in the Animal Kingdom. Perhaps we'll find more in part 2.

They search everyone's bag, too. The room key to our resort (a disney resort) was a bracelet with a chip in it we could also connect to our credit card to buy stuff at disney places.

Hoookay, tagged and hooked up to the milking machine. All that's missing from this equation is a sheep dip, rectal palpation and vaccinations. And bomb sniffer dogs.
