I've never seen resurrection fern in the wild (one site says it ranges to New York--missed us by one state!) but we used to sell it in the gift shop I worked in. Houston seems dry for lichen--though we did observe it in death valley.
Hahahaha... Houston being dry. You've never visited, I guess. Humidity is almost always at 70 or higher, I'd guess. The color of the lichen somehow give one an idea of the pollution levels it's absorbing, one of my co-workers did a paper on it. You've inspired me to take a few lichen photos of my own.
i love how when i try to pet a feeding bumblebee they at first wave one "leg" at me, as if to say that i'm being annoying but that the food is so good they can't be bothered to actually fly away.
I'm happy there are so many bee petters out there. I like to do it also because it surprises people. "Aren't you afraid of being stung?!?" It's an eduacational opportunity. Not all insects that can sting, will at every opportunity. (I don't pet yellowjackets.)
I too, enjoy their fuzziness. Oh, you know what other insect is cute and hamster-like really close up? Moths. Moths are the bomb. They are fuzzy and have cool antennae.
