La Brea, the museum and the remains of the tar pits. You learn what was the most common mammal found in the tar fossils, and why. You see many many fossils. Breakfast and lunch at one of the hundred stalls (and buy tequila, maybe)at Grand Central Market at 317 S. Broadway. Once I stayed at a hotel about 2 blocks from there, and it was heaven getting breakfast.

Take a drive up 101 to Monterey!  You'll go thru Big Sur, and you can see the Monterey Bay Aquarium, as well as many sites from Steinbeck novels, now preserved on Cannery Row.  Along the way, use the turnouts near cliffs to whale watch.  Every mile of this trip is memorable…

iFly on Universal Citywalk. You don't have to have a ticket to Universal to get there.

A few of us did LA last winter, and it was great. We stayed in an Air BnB in Venice Beach.

The Getty at sunset is not to be missed (tho be prepared for long lines to get into the parking lot), and we had fun doing a Stray Boots tour of Hollywood: https://www.strayboots.com/locations/los-angeles/hollywood/ (Amoeba Music is on this, and we could have easily lost the rest of the day in there)

Also, Upright Citizens Brigade show in Franklin Ave. theater is cheap and fun. Rent a bike for the day in Santa Monica. Also, rent a car, because you'll need it.

Really wanted to get to some weird places, but didn't have enough time. If you do Pinterest, I have a board of stuff: https://www.pinterest.com/chdeveau/la-state-of-mind/

Enjoy! I still think about that trip every day.
