urbpan: (Bowling for Rhinos! "borrowed" from Tuls)
No, I'm not going to ask you for money again!  I will say, THANK YOU!!! toneveryone who donated again, and let me add a hearty thank you to ZB and JG who donated in the second wave.  Because of all your support, we had the most successful Bowling For Rhinos event in the history of the New England chapter of AAZK.  We raised 500 dollars more than the last record.

The bowling was fun, despite the fact that we used inferior large balls instead of native New England Candlepins.  The team I played on--The Pinheads--was thoroughly trounced.  But one of our team members did bring home the prize for having the single lowest score of the night, (44) so we have that going for us.  I bowled a 96, which is solidly in  'laughable' territory.  Alexis managed to break a hundred, and even got 3 strikes.

The winning team was Snakes on a Lane, who in my opinion won the moment they named themselves that.  They were composed of keepers from Southwick's Zoo, and it was great to have them there.  There was also a team from the Aquarium, and from one of our construction contractors.

We got a handful of pictures from the night (thanks to Alexis) and if the official ones show up on line I'll link to those as well.

A view of the office.

I bought myself a new battery for my computer today, and I must say that it works much better.  All it took was 135 dollars.  Ouch.  On top of the 280 dollar charge for replacing all the other parts last week.  I suppose I could have bought a new Dell for the price of the repairs to my macbook, but it's too late to convert to a new religion.   I like other things about apple computers, but I forget what they are.  The Apple store, once I figured out how to use it, is really good.  You can walk up to any of the people who work there (not "the counter" in the back, since that's the "genius bar" that you have to make appointments to use) and say "I want to buy this," and they pull out a little credit card reader and email you a receipt.  Now that I've been there four times in two weeks, I hope to not go there again for a couple years.  Yesterday I went there (and forgot my wallet, which is why I went back today) and there were people lined up outside to buy the new phone.  Must be some helluva phone.  I'm happy I don't care enough about phones to wait in line for one.

I have to do a More Urban Species entry on the European paper wasp, but I'm spending too much energy doing battle with the damn things.  It would feel like work at this point.

It's nice to be back on LJ, but there are too many competitors for time wasting right now: Rock Band, GTAIV, Carnivale on DVD (one disc to go!), The Jim, and long hours of sunshine.  I promise to check in daily, at least.
