Hey look I'm starting a new blog project!

From Vernal Equinox (yesterday) to Winter Solstice (Dec 22) I'll post one organism per day--I'll have taken the picture within a couple days of the post, to keep it seasonally relevant. I'm avoiding plants and captive animals to concentrate on the animals, bugs, fungi, and squishy stuff that I love so much. I'll keep doing the snapshot project out of habit and general pathological compulsiveness.

This juvenile red-tailed hawk has been hanging around the Children’s Zoo, hoping for an easy meal of prairie dogs or ducks. Hopefully (s)he’ll learn to catch squirrels and rats and leave the zoo animals alone eventually. Red-tailed hawks Buteo jamaicensis are the largest and most common birds of prey in Boston.
