I have seen this brain-melting thing before. Why do that man and computer technology work so well together? He should be in a tv show with an artificially intelligent car or something.

Ah yes, but the diminishing impact. The me that first saw it hadn't yet developed the protective scarring that the me that just saw it now has. When I first saw it I found it difficult to turn it off, or avert my gaze. It could be used for riot control, or mass hypnosis.

It would be more appropriate if the box bore a big red label saying "Warning: Contains Hasselhoff."

I know you asked some good and relatively deep questions, but all I wanted know is why he covered that particular song and why he had some one's high school AV team do the video.

Bar bet?

I have new respect for him, as he clearly understands his role as a metacelebrity. I wondered about the backup music quality--it sounds like the shopping mall keyboard store donated their services. I guess he meant it as a bit of a joke and didn't want to devote the millions of dollars at his disposal to it. I haven't seen his short part (if you know what I mean) in the Spongebob movie--any good?

I've been spared much exposure to the Spongebob Movie. It was on at skylar's house once while I was talking to here mom and I glanced over and saw "the Hoff" and said "David Hasselhoff's in this movie?" but I think the flash I saw was the extent of his role. Not a huge fan of Mr. Squarepants, but I'm not the target audience.

I do recall a fairly hilarious bit on SNL featuring Hasselhoff and Norm MacDonald. in which MacDonald tried desperately to get David Hasselhoff to say that the Germans loved him, so I think you're right in surmising that he gets the joke and is perfectly willing to jump in on it.
