Looking back at the archives, this day last year was cold enough to inspire me to write poetry.

This week was the first week this year that the animals' waters didn't have ice on them.

Here's a picture I took on 3/13/05.

No heated dishes?

Only the deer. Otherwise it's an ice-crackin' good time.

That sucks. All our outdoor areas have them, except for the animals who aren't always outside all day. The smaller ones work really well for the birds, etc. Of course, the heated Nelson waterers are the best, but those are super-fancy! :)

It does suck. When I A: leave this job and/or B: leave this climate the most visceral memory I will take with me is the feeling of plunging my hand into 32 degree water to remove pieces of ice. The back of my hand itches just thinking about it.

For the birds of prey, we take the water dishes out all together, and inject their mice with water. We put their dishes back out this week.
