A Day in the Life

Some pictures I took during my long day yesterday.

Guess what state I live in.

This is the nicest collection of shaggy manes (Coprinus comatus) I've ever encountered.

In animal care jargon, this is known as "environmental enrichment." In layman's terms, it's a "huge pain in the ass."

Yesterday was our Halloween event "Tales of the Night."

Some of the animals get the spotlight in seasonal style:

Some of the staff has fun dressing up as animals:

Visitors get the rare chance to meet our creatures of the night, at night:

We get to express our senses of humor, for a bit:

("Turkzilla" is alternately baffling and delightful to the visitors.)

We all work a long long day. (This shot, of a fantasically beautiful night landscape of the farm, shows the limitations of point-and-shoot digital photography, and the photoshop skill of [livejournal.com profile] cottonmanifesto: the photo, with the levels unaltered, was a white dot on a black background.)

I love your desk. I think many people would love to have a groundhog instead of a computer.

Ah, yes. It's my boss' desk, but mine is decorated much the same only more books and a tank full of cockroaches instead of a marmot. My other coworker has a mouse (live mouse in a cage) on her desk.

That groundhog has (along with her partner in crime, the rabbit) destroyed 3 computer cables, one coffee mug (mine), and a whole row of (mostly unused and ignored) books. she's very cute, but when she's in the office, I call her "wreckin' ball."
