Ants!

I perched myself on a stump in the park for a moment, and felt a little bite. I looked down and saw that the stump was teeming with thousands of tiny ants. I lept up and brushed myself off in a panic, as several of them took turns biting me. Of course, I was thinking (along with "AAAGH! I'm being bitten by ants!!") "I wish I knew what species they are."

We have scary little ants out here. They're so tiny, you don't feel them until there's about fifty on you, and then once they start biting, it's too late - you're left dancing a jig, screaming your head off and beating your clothes and legs like a maniac. Our son loves bugs, but he's terrified of ants now. :(

They are much worse in the tropics. There was a very tiny ant that got me in Jamaica, and it stung like heck and left an itchy welt for at least several days! :(
