I just figured out the first place I'm sure I wanna go on my vacation:
http://www.capbridge.com/

Try to look at that without saying "Holy S--t!"

I managed to stop myself after "Holy-"

That's so awesome. I think I need to go there.

A bit of friction there, eh?

not in the least.

his dad is an absolutely wonderful guy, but kinda mr. magoo-ish. he falls a lot. plus, he only has one eye so depth perception is sometimes an issue.

He'll be fine. He goes to more precarious places without me. At least there's a railing at this place.

the railing is great, but that's a doozy of a drop. :)

Wow. Y'know, I really wanted to go to BC anyway. The bridge is just gravy. :)

that's awesome that vancouver has one! except for the horrible heat, long trek, and nasty bugs, i thoroughly enjoyed the canopy walk i took in ghana. will your dad join you?

What kind of wonderful bugs were there in Ghana?

My dad will handle it better than me. I predict I'm going to want to lay down about midway through.

This is the first trip you've taken with him where I'm actually Jealous a opposed to just happy for you and eager to hear the stories. Now I'm even more Jealous because apparently the first stop on our itinerrary is Kashyyyk. You damn well better take pictures.

Yep, that's exactly what I said before refusing to go there back in June when we were there. I've got agoraphobia. Can't look down from anything higher than three stories without getting slightly dizzy. . . . and a weird suicidal urge to just freefall down.

Sweet. I'm glad you're taking my advice!
You'll love the "treetops adventure."

That's scary. But then, I'm acrophobic.

Some friends of mine moved to New Zealand a few years ago. I just unearthed their pictures of the "Swing Bridge" in their blog: scroll down to 14 September and you'll see the photos.

I couldn't. Oh. My. Now I want to go to Vancouver all of a sudden. And I have images of Donkey (in Eddie Murphy's voice) saying "Shrek, I'm looking do-own!"

Pretty!

So very pretty.

There is a lovely, though nowhere near as awesome, National park in New Brunswick a bit north of St John, where you can watch the highest tides in the world rise and fall in the Bay of Fundy, and then hike on pretty difficult trails through the woods and on the cliffs. There are at least a couple of spots that have long funky wooden suspension bridges and walkways through the trees that your lovely bridge website reminded me of, but as I said nothing as awesome as that. Visiting this park was the only highlight of our forced layover in St John on our way home from our honeymoon in Nova Scotia (the fog was so bad that David couldn't fly the plane for several days).

Cape Breton, in Nova Scotia, is also very beautiful and wild:

But if I could, I'd love to go to Vancouver. I'm sure you'll love it!

I've heard that there's a better, less touristy one in Lynn Canyon park, but I cannot remember where I heard that. I'll go digging. :)

awesome. wish i had known about that place when i was up there.

i was only in vancouver briefly, but i really enjoyed my visit to wreck beach, one of the largest and coolest official clothing-optional beaches in the world, on the campus of university of british columbia. my sister took me there when she was working on her master's. it's down about 400 steps, but once you get down there, you'll find all kinds of hippies selling food, beer, what-have-you. you can spend a while there; you can keep your clothes on if you like.

another great thing about vancouver: vegetarian indian buffets! yum.

and i think they have some kind of mad fireworks festival coming up in the near future as well. and shakespeare on the beach! a very cool town.

Kill me now.

Gives me the willies just looking at it. Maybe if I had a rope tied around me. Or if the walls were a little higher (and made of thick plastic).

They're attempting to raise money to build a canopy skyway like that complete with a "skypod" classroom on my campus: http://academic.evergreen.edu/n/nadkarnn/walkway/walkway.htm
