For my classmates in clay studio
Here's the pictures of the first Raku we did, and a couple of Nancy and the bust of her son. For other people reading this, Nancy was cleaning out a storage area and came across a box she hadn't opened in 25 years or so. In it were clay portraits of her children, now all grown. The bust of the little boy is of her son, who is in his forties now.

Date: 2004-12-15 04:00 am (UTC)You mean the fire and smoke? If so, then, YES! Isn't it cool? The barrels are full of newspaper, which rapidly cools the molten glaze, and the smoke permeates the unglazed parts of the clay. The resulting pieces (which I really should have better pictures of) look really interesting, with metallic parts, irridescent parts and matte black parts.
