It's pretty accepted that red-tails are urban wildlife. The best pictures I've seen illustrating this show them perched on man-made objects. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the one flying over Fenway park, but this one is over one of the hospitals, 6 or 7 blocks from there.

eeeeeee redtail!!!

I saw a pair of sparrowhawks (Eurasian sparrowhawks, accipiter nisus) soaring over the park yesterday. Such joy!

There's a pair of redtail hawks that built a nest on top of the office building where I work. They're lovely to watch -- especially when they're chasing each other around; it looks like they're playing follow-the-leader.

I saw one yesterday on the way to work. It was sitting on a light pole at an exit ramp (they seem to like exit ramps) and looking rather soggy.

And I meant to post that the week before I saw what must have been a dead coyote (possibly a fox). Sad that it didn't make it across the road, but still cool to see one. Sad that I include roadkill in my wildlife sightings.

I used to see hawks on the street lights in San Diego...I miss that. I hope I see some here...:)

Oh, you will. When I lived in SF I saw them--especially near GG Park. Apparently there's a raptor-monitoring organization there, too, and many different species migrate through.

OOOOOOH! :)
I am happy to hear that...I told Dan I wouldn't mind staying here forever, but we have to move to a different area. The chocolate will drive me mad...;)
But I love how there are a good amount of wildlife sanctuaries and rescues and whatnot...

My first wife and I lived there from December 1998 to May 1999. We ran out of money, and couldn't find anywhere affordable to live. (She has since moved back--and volunteers for a raptor place--and last I knew, was couch surfing.)

Neither of us had a driver's license at the time, so living out of the city wasn't an option. Now we want to buy, not rent, so that may not be possible. cotton and I love SF, and if we could afford it we'd do it in a heartbeat.

Ah that would make it harder then...yea the surrounding areas aren't so expensive to buy so that would be cool...:)
I know there are some rent to own places we are considering...
