Something else: just post the way you do already: you post regularly enough. Otherwise, maybe weekly would be more manageable for you.

I was considering a weekly assignment in addition to the way I do it already. Thanks!

It doesn't feel quite right to tell you what to choose to do. One thing I really liked about the 365 project was the timeliness. I saw a catbird, you wrote about catbirds that day. Maybe a weekly post of whatever length seems right. Or a basic weekly post with intermittent occasional short updates, if you see something cool. But then I liked the daily ones. I'm not that structured. If you did a post every couple of days, long or short, that would be fne. But if it's structure you're after, then I would say weekly, and whatever length suits what you're writing about. You could also do a Q and A (we Q, you A), or let people send in pictures of things they are having a hard time id'ing, (but they would really have had to try hard first). Some of your correspondents are so knowledgeable, you could let people in other parts of the country/world submit short pieces on what's happening in their ecosystems. Really, I think you should do what you would most like to do. If you have an end project in mind, fit it to that. (I still think that you could sell the 365 thing as a calendar and make some $.)

Questions are always welcome! And since I have a pathological need to answer them, you can torture me with them. It's entertaining!

Hmm, a weekly event sounds good, but it doesn't have to be 300-500 words (though if that's what you choose, you can bet we'll be counting!). I personally hate word restrictions. Besides, some week you may find you have little to say but a lot of photos to share. Go with whatever ya feel like.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking.

something else

Hmmm...
Ideas that spring to mind are seaside parks, urban streetside gardens, flower markets...
Also, if it wouldn't be too depressing, maybe a bit of commentary on polluted areas?
I also think you should post as the fancy strikes you, so that you are less pressured to meet either a schedule, or a word limit.

Thanks for that!

I need a little pressure or I won't do anything.

I think a longer weekly update would be good - but as someone else already said, a picture and less words is just as valid, and will give variety for us (and you!) if this becomes difficult to maintain. I don't think you need to format it too rigidly. Although it does occur to me that if you did have a fairly rigid structure, then deliberately breaking that structure occasionally would have great impact!

I don't know what to vote for! I'd like to read the weekly post the best, but my f-page moves along so quickly I'd probably miss it more often than not. I'd be more likely to catch daily updates. Hmmm.

I find your writing so fascinating, I could stand a post a day. A picture and a paragraph commentary would be great. And it could be anything - your observations are always interesting.

I'm happy with just pictures and a little write up. I love the photographs despite how home sick they make me:-)

The Boston area, I lived in Arlington for a while. I am in Florida now, which has better weather, but I miss a lot about home.

MUCH better weather. Although this winter hasn't been anything to shiver about.

Did you live in the East, the Center, or the Heights?

i'd like to see images and your comments on how the rhythm of night/day, winter/summer affects differently various parts of the planet *at the same time*, and/or how pollution and global warming --or whatever global change may be occurring-- affect nature where you are.

forgot to include the phases of the moon, and what effects do they have -if any- on the living things that we can see here in the city.

I'm impressed that you would even consider going back to a daily post commitment, having just done that for a year!

So, if you want structure, I'd suggest a weekly post, partly so that you have the experience of a different structure and learn its advantages and disadvantages.

I agree, though, with those who don't want a consistent word length. I'm reminded of a wonderful teacher, long ago, who when students would ask her how long an assignment should be, would reply, "as long as the topic takes."

And, like some of the others, I'm curious whether you expect these posts to have a theme beyond urban nature -- such as change over time.

I kind of miss it--I'm afraid I'll become completely idle.

I'll definitely have themes that drift away from urban nature.

As far as drifting goes --
part of me is still stuck in the phase of life where we hear a fact and go, "Why?" or, "How?" or, "What other migratory birds depend on roadside greenery?" I'm often left wondering about bigger trends behind the urban/nature intersection, be it heat island dynamics or the ethics behind the way we treat animals. I'd be happy to see you drift into "bigger picture" themes once in a while.

Of course, I feel confident I'll enjoy reading your posts regardless; this is just mho.

I still ask those questions too :) I want to know everything, and share it with everybody.

Thanks for the confidence!

Do whatever seems right to you - if you try to stick to a stricter schedule than is natural, it'll be a burden.
