Cold walk in the Riverway

This is about as bleak as a clear day can look, but it's still rather beautiful. This is another one of those views that I repeatedly photograph.

During the 365 urban species project, I frequently made mention if a plant species was salt tolerant. Those of you living where ice and snow are the exception rather than the rule may have wondered what the relevance of that fact is. This photograph shows the typically liberal application of rock salt to the sidewalk following a light snowfall. This is an area in spring and summer that supports fairly full weed growth (but not grass).
