Cold Rhodies!

Our new Eastern Cottontail. A wildlife rehabilitator got it from someone who was keeping it as a pet. Apparently it was friends with the cat. I've never worked with a cottontail before--I've been told that they don't do well in captivity, that they are too high-strung. If this one is as imprinted as we've been led to believe, maybe it won't suffer too much stress. If it does okay, it's going to go on exhibit.

Revisiting some mushrooms I first photographed in October.

(this is the photo I took in October, for comparison)

Can you see someone in the trees above my building?

Here he is actually on the building.

Thanks for the pix. You have a great job.

I hope the rabbit adjusts well. And the bird--wow. My first thought was that he was checking y'all out, thinking about applying for a position in residence.

My pleasure! Yeah, the job has its moments.

I think it's a young male turkey, looking to stake out some new territory.

Cute bunny!!! I see turkeys all the time at my job - however, I've never seen one up on a roof. You caught the sound really well.

You do have a very cool job. And how, with everything you photographed for the 365 project, did you manage to remember you photographed those mushrooms in October?

Good question! I didn't remember when I photographed it; instead I checked my drumlin tag and looked back a few posts and found it.

I have heard the same thing about cottontails in captivity. I have heard that they ususally die from the stress.

I'm a little worried about it, but the rehabber sought us out, so I have to assume she feels good about placing it.

I think I heard that they usually die within 24 hours of being captivity. So I am pretty sure yours is imprinted and that it will probably be fine.

i have known at least 2 cat/rabbit friend combos...they seem to have fun together, which always surprises me. i known bunnies can be tough and bitey when provoked, but i always assumed a cat would eat a small rabbit, given the chance.
