So I can't stop making zines! Because of that last post, I'm actually considering making a poetry zine. All the poems must be written by zookeepers or ex-zookeepers, and the poems must be about zookeeping in some way.

I'm actively soliciting illustrations. They should be black and white, easily reproducable (by photocopier) and have something to do with zoos.

If I get enough submissions soon enough, I'll put it out by the boston zine fair, March 19/20. (Don't worry, Alexis, I won't make you work on it [unless you really want to]).

Do the Illustrators have to be zookeepers as well?

Here's my craptastic submission. Take it or leave it. I might be able to come up w/something better later.

Crazy wooly tarantula!
Thinks exhibit modification is its job-
fills in water bowl with dirt,
webs itself into a cave.
I that a molt?!
oh my..
well, no, its just some mulch,
all webbed together.
Ouch! My eye!

Nice!
I don't think we'll have enough by the Boston Zine Fair, but I'll slowly collect them until there's enough.

What exactly is a zine fair? Do most major cities have one?

A zine fair is basically like any other trade show (auto show, eco-fair, comic book convention) but more fun, since zinesters do it for love, not money.

Many major cities have them--expecially cities with vibrant college/anarchist/transgendered communities.

Ok, and so a "zine" is a magazine? A low circulation, "non-professionally" produced magazine?

xerox-reproducible. Hmm! do you want the illustrations to be for specific poems (like the owl and the tarantula?) do you want the text mixed in with the image?

Possibly, but not necessarily
do you want the text mixed in with the image?
I can't picture what you mean...

Holy cow, are you serious, by the way? Thanks for considering this!!

xerox-reproducible. Back when I was doing a comics anthology zine, this was pretty easy. Most everyone used india ink line art. Occasionally someone would use washes (b+w watercolor, basically) and it was hell to reproduce.
