We got Charlie first. We were very unsure if we wanted a dog, but a friend of a friend had to get rid of Charlie, so we kept him for a weekend and fell in love. He's the smartest dog I've ever known, no kidding.
So a couple years later, we decided to get another one of these great dogs, for Charlie to play with and love and such, and found a rescue org called "out of the pits" and they had a litter of puppies that needed homes. We drove out to Schenectady and picked one out. Maggie turned out to be a total basketcase, neurotic and fearful, built like a brick wall and every bit as smart as one. We love her anyway, and Alexis has knocked herself out training and calming her. Charlie instantly hated her, but still plays with her for a little while each night, and growls when she wants to come up on the bed with us. One big happy.
