Are black foxes native up north? To my knowledge we only have red and gray down here (Virginia).

The black (or 'silver' as they are called in the fur trade) are a color variation of the red. That color occurs mainly in Canada, and is extensively bred on fur farms. Ours is a confiscated pet, and was probably born on a fur farm, but there's no way to know for sure. It makes for a cool exhibit, as the educational prgrams can talk about genetic variations and stuff like that.
