Using an idea from here, posted on the [livejournal.com profile] invertebrates community, I made Ammonites in a blanket.

That's the best thing I've seen all day.

I cannot adequately express how much I approve of this.

Cutest food post ever. :)

I totally need to make some of these now (with tofu dogs, though!).

So much awesomeness I don't know where to START.

I MUST do this! Damn my lack of pasty dough! Or olives.

From: [identity profile] urbpan.livejournal.com
I cheated and used the croissant dough that comes in a vacuum tube (like pilsbury, but I used the store brand).

I'm amazed no one else has mentioned Joost Elffers yet.

That is officially THE coolest thing I've ever seen. May I link to this from my science discussion community, [livejournal.com profile] thelunarsociety?

I love it. These are a classic--right up there with the kitty litter cake (http://www.fabulousfoods.com/recipes/dessert/cakes/kittylittercake.html) and [livejournal.com profile] hauntmeister's meathead (http://cascade.mit.edu/halloween/meathead.html).

I'm linking to this (http://monado2.blogspot.com/2007/03/invertebrate-snacks.html) from my science blog.

At first glance I thought the tentacles were beet stalks or red swiss chard. Hot dogs are doubtless tastier.

If you slice the doggies first, and then boil them, the the tentacles curl up in a very attractive manner. I think I'll go make some for the kids right now as a matter of fact.

would tofu dogs curl?

Date: 2007-03-18 12:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] brush-rat.livejournal.com
I think so. I think it's due to the casing shrinking up or the meat or tofu puffing up.

Between these and the trilobite fudge molds I picked up from American Science & Surplus, I now know what to serve at the party I'm thinking about throwing at the Society of Vertebrate Palaeontology conference this fall.

Well, then here you go (http://www.sciplus.com/singleItem.cfm?terms=11326&cartLogFrom=Search). AS&S is a very, very dangerous place, and that's why I like it so much.
