Apparently (I'm just learning now) that it is unusual for a hen to have a beard, but not unheard of. Tito is even more special, now!

That was how she ended up with a male name: she started showing all these male characteristics (snood, beard, etc) before she ended all doubt by laying an egg!

That's almost exactly opposite of what happened with my turtle, "Shelly", now known as Sheldon.
