Children of Men

The most chillingly realistic post-apocalyptic urban adventure chase movie I've ever seen.

I agree. And unlike some confused individuals on Amazon.com, the movie was NOT "violence porn." The violence had a point, thank you, and it wasn't gratuitous. I don't think anyone could have sat through that and thought "woo-hoo! yeah!" the whole time through. I had a visceral, gut reaction, and was completely slain by that film for the rest of the night.

I fully agree. The violence lacked gore almost completely, and existed to move the story and to tell you something important about the setting.

I also appreciate that they didn't linger on any of the especially violent shots- they were so short that at first you weren't even sure you'd just seen what you thought you saw. I felt that it was more powerful and respectful that way.

Absolutely. It had a very human-level feel about it, which I think made it all the more powerful than standard Hollywood action/violence crap (crescendoing music, slo-mo shots, etc.).

And was probably why it was completely overlooked by the Academy...

I SO want to see that movie, but I've had the book sitting here and been meaning to read it...and I refuse to see the movie until I read the book. I've heard nothing but good reviews from everyone who's seen it.

Off the topic...again
