Disgusting Substance of the Day: Flood Water.

The pump in the Drumlin Underground building died. This exhibit, which shows live animals in both outdoor cages and in underground glass-fronted dens was built 30+ years ago, between two ponds. The water table bubbles up through cracks in the concrete into the exhibit hall (the animal cages are thankfully pretty dry--otherwise we'd shut it down). I spent a fair amount of the day wading around moving little portable pumps to get water out of the place, with minimal effect. The biggest losers in the deal are the members of vacation week camp, who can't go into the exhibit to hide from the incessant rain predicted for this week. Also? It snowed this morning.

The main building at my campus flooded. Fortunately they had pumps. My friend's basement flooded. She had pumps.

I'm sorry about your pump-less situation. And it snowed.

That just blows.

We just a fire (at U Md College Park) and power outages (at U Md Baltimore County). No snow here, thankfully.
