From the blog izzle pfaff, on ghosts in Hollywood movies (specifically "Gothika"): "the dead are just a bunch of peevish, self-serving, dissatisfied assholes. I can't imagine why Hollywood filmmakers would be so interested in them."

Yeah! That's how I feel. Fuck ghosts! I prefer zombies, werewolves, gigantic animals and swarms of murderous animals, in reverse order of preference. I don't care for psychotic killers that much, either.

i don't like psychotic killers, crazy/mean ghosts, or ghosts of psychotic killers. i also don't like demons, devils, or possession.
that being said, i really liked constantine.

Monsters have to beat ghosts any day of the week. And unless the psychotic killer is maybe a psychotic werewolf or something, I'm not interested.

Do you prefer shambling or sprinting zombies?

if they sprint, seems like they risk rotten limbs falling off. that would make it interesting.

I liked the sprinting zombies in "28 days later" and I liked the shambling zombies in "Shaun of the Dead." I haven't seen either "Dawn of the Dead" for original-to-remake/shambling-to-sprinting comparison.

Also I tend to like it when horror movies are funny, too, but not so funny that they aren't at all scary. (I gave 5 star ratings to "Shaun" and "Tremors.")

I love Shaun of the Dead, and I liked Tremors, too.

Army of Darkness, the Steven Sommers remake of The Mummy, and Bubba Ho-tep also seem to fall into this category. I'd include stuff like Ghostbusters and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, but they are much more comedy than horror.

All good. On a more subtle note, Reanimator.

The humor is subtle, you mean. Not much is subtle about that one. I laughed my ass off with it, though, I admit.

Ohhhhh, yes. That movie gave me a deep, abiding, and somewhat disturbing love of both Jeffrey Combs and H.P. Lovecraft.

I loved Bubba Ho-tep (my wife and I seem to unique among our friends for this) and Army of Darkness. I like Bruce Campbell in general--he and Jeffrey Coombs should make a movie together!

Haven't seen the Mummy remake--is that the one with whatsisname, George of the Jungle Dudley Doright guy?

I dug "Tomatoes," (in a campy way) and totally loved Ghostbusters--as a sci-fi comedy (ditto Men in Black), not a horror movie.

Jeffrey Coombs as Herbert West is my biggest movie crush, which probably explains some of my poorer choices in men. In the movie Necronomicon http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107664/ he plays H.P Lovecraft and for the part is fitted with a prosthetic chin which makes him look just like Bruce Campbell!

I was prepared not to like the sprinting zombies in the DOTD remake but it didn't bother me so much. I *really* recommend the remake very good, very scary, even touching in spots, but I haven't seen the original in a looong time. It's in our queue, though.

Yes, it's the one with Brendan Fraser. It's the only thing he's been in that I can stand.
