Disgusting substance of the day: Loose deer stool, a result, I suspect, of the deer browsing new growth from toxic plants in their enclosure.

On this day in 365 Urban Species: Celandine. This one is definitely up and blooming in some places.

So, today was such a nice day! I can't leave you with the impression that my job involves just an ugly sink and deer diarrhea. I have some more pictures from a beautiful day a week or so ago:

Bloodroot Sanguinaria canadensis. Not an urban species, this native wildflower needs rich woodlands to survive.

Scarlet cup fungus Sarcoscypha sp. This was exciting! I've never seen this one before.

Part of a new "Forest Discovery Trail": a giant replica bird nest.

Also new signs, with illustrations by [livejournal.com profile] rockbalancer

And here she is, trying out the "stump jump."
