Disgusting substance of the day: Mouse brains that squirted out when I cut a mouse up with the poultry shears.

On this day in 365 urban species: Multiflora rose, very much in bloom at the moment. I put some in the mouse exhibit cage today, and the mother mouse made a nest out of it.

I have a friend whose father is a neurologist. As a teenager, she had a summer job at his lab extracting mouse brains. I remember she had a little vial filled with formaldehyde and.... tiny brain.
