Well, I've actually eaten stinging nettle leaves before. They're rather yummy, and I didn't notice any stinging sensation while eating them (I'm not immune, on the exterior anyway-- they will sting my skin if I'm not careful-- but maybe I have powerful sting-disabling salivary glands. Or something).

I was watching a BBC documentary show yesterday on England's hunter-gatherer past and learning how/what they ate. Apparently stinging nettle is a good source of nutrition; though the work that has to go into preparing them was probably prohibitive.
