Kilauea Point. Northernmost part of the main Hawaiian islands; a wildlife sanctuary.

Best part of the day: Tying one on with dad at the seedy shopping complex bar and walking back to the hotel in the dark, and then catching toads on the hotel lawn.

On this day in 365 urban species: Asiatic dayflower. I haven't seen these yet this year. Are they blooming in New England while I'm away?

One of the few places where it is expected that men stare at boobies.

Kauai is one of my favorite places on the planet. How do you like the moas?

I always love to see loose chickens! Does anyone harvest them, do you know?

They get left alone mostly. The ones running around on the side of the road are domestic, moa mixes. The real wild jungle moas are shy and stay away from people. I think they are protected, being a species the Hawaiian people introduced.
