Jamaica Pond

Charlie and I walked around Jamaica Pond today, while Alexis and Maggie were at dog school.

It was a crisp and clear late autumn day. There were a few mallards, some Canada geese and some ruddy ducks, many American coots, and a pair of mute swans.

Fallen leaves gathered at the shore where the wind had pushed them: white oaks, tulip poplars, birch and maple.

The level of the pond was way down, because of our dry summer.
Many more rocks were exposed than usual.
Someone had gathered them into dozens of piles around the shore of the pond.
I hadn't done any rock balancing for a while, so I did a little.

This beer can I found was relatively clean and new looking, but was the style of can made back in the 70's.

Charlie needed to soak up some sunshine, after a little wading in the cold pond.

Leaving the pond area: Perkins and Chestnut streets.

After we met up with Alexis and Maggie, we walked through Olmsted Park, where things were very pretty.
This is a tulip poplar leaf resting on a staghorn sumac stem.

Some parts of the park had been in the shade all morning (this was at 11) and still had frost on them.
