Random question

Does anyone know anything about Round Rock Texas? (Any personal experiences, I mean; I read the wikipedia page.) I was just looking at a map of Austin and saw it up there and wondered what it was like.

We've driven up into a few times now, and it has its own yuppie-ish charms.

It seems to primarily be a mix of condos and 'burbs, and is near this thing called The Domain, which is one of those corporate "lifestyle complex" things. It does fireworks every weekend of December for some strange reason.

There are a few cool things up there, from what I understand, but so far we've only been up there to buy things from folks desperately divesting themselves of things in order to make their rent.

We kept seeing *extremely* cheap rentals listed for the area, but nearly all had weird rules about animals (perhaps pertinent to you: especially regarding Pitties), and we couldn't see ourselves throwing down an extra $800 deposit and $25 p/mo for our two harmless old men.

Thanks very much for this!

It is a town with an interstate and an elevated toll road through the heart of it. The residential areas are new, cookie-cutter houses. There is a Hummer dealership, an Ikea, an outlet mall, a Denny's, a McDonald's, a Wal-Mart, a Home Depot, and a Volkswagen dealership. They have a bat bridge like the Congress street bat bridge in downtown Austin, but it goes over some train tracks and it is by some really ghetto houses and an industrial area. There is a gravel area by the railroad that you could park to watch the bats but I've never seen anyone except people with stalled vehicles stop there. The people in Austin consider Round Rock to be where all the Dallas transplants live. I would say San Marcos is 10 times better than Round Rock. Still, if you are interested in Round Rock, I can take pictures of the residential areas. It is part of my inspection territory.

A bat bridge, you say?

How had I not heard of this yet?!?

Thank you for putting that point in...I'll be one of the few who goes there :)

The bats are back already and they seem to be leaving around 5:30 right now. They are at the I-35 overpass over McNeil Road.

I'd rather live in Pflugerville than Round Rock. Pflugerville is a little closer in to Austin, it still has some rural areas with a cute, older downtown. It has a bike trail through the town, and there is a little lake at the very edge of the incorporated areas. Sadly, it is getting new development to make it look just like Round Rock, but people keep goats in their backyards so it isn't Dallas yet.

I'd second Pflugerville - I was thinking that even before I read your comment. Pflugerville is much nicer, much less political, and has a sense of fun. Also one of the best vets in the area, Rick Lusk at White Rock Vet Clinic.

This is one of the top 5 most helpful lj comments I've ever received! Thanks. We want a place where we can have chickens and maybe goats or possibly (if I fall off the deep end in a delicious way) emus.

Sweet! Glad to be of help. I have an LJ friend that lives in P-ville. These are pictures of her neighbor's goats: http://awdrey-gore.livejournal.com/325129.html

I'm late chiming in, but:
overwhelmingly white, overwhelmingly Republican, overwhelmingly suburband, and nastily smug about all of those.
