The hand scrub sinks I've used have like motion sensors or things you press in with your knees or even foot pedals...something so you don't have to touch them to turn the water off after you've scrubbed and are about to get all sterile n stuff.

Maybe your sink is a different sink altogether. :)

Foot pedals. The ones in our local hospital's emergency room, though, have handles, which I have never once seen an EMT touch with bare hands.
