Last weekend in pictures, continued

Last weekend we went to Borderlands State Park. We had never been before, so I can't compare the old path to the new path, to confirm or deny the claim at the bottom of the sign. I liked it just fine.

The dogs enjoyed this stream, which was red with the tannins of fallen leaves (I believe).

I clambered to the top of this nice glacial erratic. There's no proof because Alexis' picture didn't make her final cut. I'll have to do it again some time.

There was this cool little shed intended to be used as a birding blind. You could sit quietly in there with your scope or binoculars and look out at the swamp.

This is the view.

Charlie wanted to look, too.

Later we found a big pond for Charlie to swim in. Jim just watched, and barked when Charlie came out to beg for more rocks to be thrown. (if you haven't seen them already, you have to see Alexis pictures of this -- http://cottonmanifesto.livejournal.com/900488.html)

A huge amount of the park is this fairly open woods with a dense shrub understory. The best thing is that all those shrubs are BLUEBERRY BUSHES. We have to go back in a couple weeks when they're fruiting.

On the way out we saw many tiger beetles. They are very hard to photograph, as they fly and run so quickly, as they patrol open sunny places for insects to catch. This may be our most common tiger beetle, the six-spotted.
