Landscapes and rock balances
May. 9th, 2010 02:00 pm
This is one of my favorite views of Antigua. The trees are visible from the house, and we worry that they might be torn down when the top of the hill is developed.

Learning the new lens at Lost Pond
Sep. 7th, 2009 10:50 amI recently got a new lens for the new camera. It's a Sigma 28-80AF zoom with macro focusing ability. I haven't taken any really good Muddy River pics with it, so I thought I'd experiment with it on yesterday's walk at the Lost Pond Reservation. Pokeberries are fruiting, so my first picture was a shameless steal from one of Alexis' recent pictures.

This morning my father in law and I went for a walk up the hill. I didn't identify the flowering plant breaking through the pavement. Can you?

Charlie's adventure in Cutler Park.
Apr. 6th, 2009 05:50 pmActually, it was more than just Charlie, but you'd hardly know it from my pictures. Can I help it that he's so photogenic and that I love him so? Cutler Park (click tag for many past adventures) is a big ol' swamp along the Charles River and Route 95/128. Awesome boardwalks.

I'll remember this Thanksgiving for a long time, since I was given such a big thing to be thankful for: my father's life. Here's a whole mess of pictures that have nothing to do with anything, except they were taken more or less at the same place (Salem) on the same day (Thanksgiving). YES there are cute doggy pictures (JIM!).

Oregon photo wrap-up
Aug. 31st, 2008 10:57 am
Portland is nice and all--look at this city park. But we wanted to get away from this hustle and bustle and out to the country. A few more pictures from Forest Park, and then our trip out of Portland.

Yellowstone pretty; Yellowstone awe
Aug. 16th, 2008 01:28 pm
I could have spent the whole Yellowstone trip photographing wildflowers. I didn't, but I still captured a few. This one is a Penstemon, I believe Wasatch penstemon, specifically.
( More photos, including the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. )

On our last day in the park, we woke up early to beat the traffic and see some things without being surrounded by fellow tourists. It worked, in fact the park is even more beautiful in the early hours because the hot springs react with the cool air to make mists and such. This is part of Canary Springs.

The Spiral Jetty
Jul. 28th, 2008 08:14 am
Before we planned this trip, we considered trying to see the Spiral Jetty, an enormous piece of environmental art on the northern shore of The Great Salt Lake. Directions I found online made it seem very difficult to get to. It was. But we're glad we did it. 16 miles of unpaved road later--including the last two miles which seemed downright dangerous--and we found it. It's amazing to me that this thing is so remote and without any kind of interpretive signage or anything. Best of all, we finally got to see the Salt Lake.

Utah, next part: Great Salt Lake?
Jul. 28th, 2008 07:33 am
So after discovering that Bountiful Lake had nothing to do with Great Salt Lake, we really wanted to see Great Salt Lake. You'd figure, it being the biggest body of water west of the Great Lakes, that it would be easy. Our next try at it found us at Willard Bay State Park.

FIrst day of vacation: Bountiful Lake
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:16 am
Yesterday we found a pretty area to walk around that turned out to be a water-filled clay pit between the town landfill and sewerage areas. This dragonfly hunts at Bountiful Lake, a man-made body of water in Bountiful Utah, just a few miles north of Salt Lake City. Town engineers four years ago decided to solve a runoff problem by diverting two creeks into a clay pit.

Last weekend in pictures, continued
May. 31st, 2008 01:12 pm
Last weekend we went to Borderlands State Park. We had never been before, so I can't compare the old path to the new path, to confirm or deny the claim at the bottom of the sign. I liked it just fine.

Picspam roundup, plus Our Fair City

I need to post these pictures before I load the new batch on to Photobucket or I'll go batty! This little guy was stuck to the zoo hospital one early morning. He was gone later when I remembered he was there.

Cochituate State Park
Apr. 20th, 2008 04:38 pm
Alexis and the dogs and I went to Cochituate State Park in Natick, although I think we wandered onto the grounds of the Wayland Town Beach. Charlie got in his first good swim of the year.
