Snakes I found in Costa Rica

On a side trip out of Quepos, on the Pacific Coast, my Dad and I took a boat ride through a mangrove swamp. We saw lots of wading birds and monkeys, and this snake, the Zopilota or vulture snake (Clelia clelia ), Apparently it feeds on other snakes.

Later in the trip, we were at a eco-lodge at the settlement of Tortuguero on the Carribean Coast. We were in the open-air bar of the lodge, when we heard a slight commotion. Some other guests were alarmed to discover this cute little guy (a common Boa constrictor) had joined the festivities. I picked him off of the chair and helped him into the nearby bushes.

Ohh my gosh! WOW!! WOW!!

I would love to find a "rad tail" boa in the wild! What a lucky one you are. <3

What's the difference between a red-tail boas and other boa constrictors?

i'm surprised the boa is so small! i'm so used to seeing them much bigger. so was this a baby boa or do boas come in different sizes?

i'm visiting the friend that just got the corn/milk snake tonight and i'm going to see if i can bring myself to touch it. eek! wish me luck.

This was a baby, and that's the normal coloration. There seems to be some discussion about "red-tail" boas as opposed to other kinds, in the snake-owning community. Perhaps [livejournal.com profile] crunchywater knows what's up.

i think

The second one's really neat looking, though I wouldn't wanna meet it...

But the first one, effin' scary. But, still kind of cool.

Mussurana ?
Hardly scary. That dude eats vipers as it's main course... especially Fer de Lance.
RIGHT THERE would be a great place to camp in the jungle with him hanging out nearby. He can sleep in the tent with me if he wants to....LOL
Like a King snake.. He's territorial, and waiting for the bad guys to show up.
I have a few on my place near Tilaran/ Arenal.
I want more !
