I told you there were more pictures. Remember the fresh travertine terraces I showed you a week ago? Well, after several hundred thousand years of them building up and whatnot, they turn into this pile of rock behind my dad here. Actually, that rock is probably in the millions of years old, and came from a nearby mountain. Seismic activity shoved it over and into a new little mountain formation, which they call "The Hoo Doos."

Different water temperatures nurture different kinds of life. This relatively cool (but still warmer than melted snow) stream is thick with algae.

An attempt at a bird photo, in order to attempt identification. Warbling vireo? Not sure.

Another beautiful hot spring called "Beryl pool," because of its gem-like color.

Hot water from the springs mix with the cold snowmelt river water.

Which in some places produce waters which are safe and pleasant to swim in.

No, I would have liked to, but on the days we discovered swimmin' holes I didn't have my suit, and days I had my suit we didn't go anywhere suitable for swimmin'

Once again, really great photos! I especially like Beryl pool. I have to go google the significance of the word beryl now. Is that a gemstone or a color?
