urbpan: (Soylent Screen!)

Somehow reviewing The Mist, released just last year, makes my Soylent_Screen column seem behind the times, rather than relatively up to date.  Read the review here.

read the story a long time ago. one of my favorites.

have the paper version of short stories (skeleton crew) still, but packed, and hiding ... was going to buy the original as an ebook version but it wasn't out then (still isn't), and the new one (still isn't). bah :) nor am i paying $7 for the "mist based on movie" book, when skeleton crew is $8. hah.

still. the movie played MOSTLY along what i remember from the original. there were a couple things i'd have liked to have seen - but probably didn't hurt the plot. there were a couple things done differently - some of which imho changed the plot enough to throw it off at that point - ESPECIALLY the ending.

it's claimed that SK approved of the story's new ending. how ... unfortunate.

then again, well, same thing for "i am legend". i much preferred the non movie theatre alternate (and released on dvd - someday, i'll buy that). it's still nothing like the story or original movie.

bah. hollywood. i swear! gunna give up movies. someday.

SK approved of the 'Dreamcatcher' movie, so I think he tows that party line when talking about movies based on his books. Except for the Kubrick Shining, he didn't like that.

Ok, you know what? SK has no taste in movies. ;)
