So I play this game called Rock Band. In some ways it is positive: I'm more interested in music again, and have even discovered some new (to me) artists. However, when I'm listening to music these days, I can't help but imagine the game as I'm listening. I can see the colored blocks representing notes, scrolling toward me, telling me hit the pads that represent the different drums. It's pathetic, really. Worst of all, when I listen to music from my own collection, I realize that many of the songs would never be chosen for the game, because they are too obscure or loaded with profanity, or just not what the game designers are looking for. Nonetheless, here's my wish list (this week):

Silver vein - Versus (also acceptable Be-9)
Could you be the one - Husker Du (also acceptable Makes no Sense at All, Don't Want to Know If you are Lonely)
Supernova - Liz Phair (also acceptable 6'1")
Still in Hollywood - Concrete Blonde (also acceptable God is a Bullet)
Bring the Noise - Anthrax (also acceptable Looking down the barrel of a gun)
Interference - Cop Shoot Cop (also acceptable Any Day Now)
F Train - Babe the Blue ox (also acceptable T.G.I.F.U.)
Too drunk to fuck - Dead Kennedys (also acceptable Holiday in Cambodia)
Wash Your Ass - James Kochalka Superstar (also acceptable Spread Your Evil Wings and Fly)
I Hate Rock and Roll - St. Johnny (also acceptable: Scuba Diving)
Sister Havana - Urge Overkill (also acceptable Heaven 90210 [song starts at 2:59])
We're desperate - X (also acceptable Los Angeles)
House of Suffering - Bad Brains (also acceptable I Against I)

(this last one would make "Enter Sandman" feel like "Say it Ain't So.")

(Actually, on reflection, the Urge Overkill songs are plausible, but they're mostly famous these days for covering a Neil Diamond song.  And the classic punk songs aren't totally out of the question--there are Buzzcocks songs available for Rock Band.)

I think you need to know...that becoming obsessed with what songs you want to hear is dangerous...it leads down the path to having both Rock Band and Guitar Hero...because Guitar Hero has the Dead Kennedys Holiday in Combodia...oh yes it does...

CURSE THEM!
Guitar Hero also has Surrender by Cheap Trick.
But Guitar Hero will always be inferior because it has no drums.

Yeah, you infected me with that little brainworm. Not that I'm complaining. "Don't want to know if you're not lonely" is even better, because it's sadder, and somehow the drummer sings it even as he bashes the crap out of his instruments. Very impressive.

Singing drummers are freaks of nature.

I nominate "Billard Player Song" by Shellac. I can't link to the fucking video, so use your imagination.

That's funny, I really wanted to put a Shellac song on this list but couldn't find any decent links. I'd like to have the ones that were on the 7 inches that came out before the album.

Here's your link:

How about My Black Ass?

Wow, I can't believe I'm still going on this subject, but if you search "shellac live" on youtube the third result down is a jaw-dropping live version. Sadly, it's not the whole song. Dude must have run out of tape.
