I just discovered a moment ago, that a good friend of mine has created a blog called An Affordable Wardrobe: Dressing Like a Chimneysweep's Funds.  His advice on how a gentleman should dress comes from a place of experience and obsession; he has been the best dressed man I know from the day I met him.  As he says, his budget is modest, and yet the results are impressive. I would do well to take his advice, but alas, I will dress like Bart Simpson into my 80's.

Well, you look quite debonair, with a Matrix-esque air about you, in your icon!

Thanks! Yeah, I clean up okay for weddings and such, but I mostly want to be dirty and climbing on rocks and stuff.

Yes! I was just about to say that the trouble with "gentlemanly" clothes is that they're not much good for anything beyond standing around being seen in them--indoors, of course. Maybe that's the point, really. The clothes say to people, "I can afford to hire other people to do all the things that might muss these threads."
