Noticing the year 12/01/08

Today was one of those freakishly warm winter days where you see people jogging in winter coats and shorts. Fifty five degrees on the first of December is a very different feeling from 55 in July. It was a nice change from the sleet I experienced when I visited my dad.

Tonight, and I gather for the next few nights, depending on where you live, there's a spectacular view of the convergence of the crescent moon, Venus, and Jupiter. The planets are gloriously bright, even as they compete with the city lights. If you live out where there's real dark, it's probably pretty awe-inspiring. It all sets around nine, so get out and see it while you can.

It is pretty amazing, quite beautiful.

My kids are calling it "the upside down frown in the sky."

I spotted it the minute I got off work. Very nifty.

It looked great here in Ireland. And funnily enough it was strange enough that loads of people noticed it, started freaking out and texting the radio stations to ask what it was. As if a man whose area of expertise is the top 40 would be able to tell them! Well, he obviously had access to google and did tell them what it was, and not a meteor hurtling towards the earth.
