Oh yes it is! And unlike last time, when I reviewed the fourth Indiana Jones movie, this is entirely different, since I reviewed the fourth Alien movie. I didn't say so in the review, but I was most excited that it was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and included Ron Perlman, from Jeunet's "City of Lost Children" and Dominique Pinon from Jeunet's "Delicatessan." Also it was written by Joss somebody or other.

Read all about it here.

Y'know if I never hear Whedon's name again it'll be too soon.

I was contemplating renting this movie, just to make sure I'd seen everything in the mainstream Alien franchise, because I loved Aliens (formative film of my late adolescence). But now? Not so much. I've been on the fence about it for years, but it starred two women I have, at various times, had the hots for. Unfortunately, neither woman was human, so the movie seemed to have jumped the anime shark (I'm glad we've been spared the logical subsequent Alien movies: Aliens in the Machine, La Blue Alien, and Legend of the Over-Alien). But MORE motherhood crap? I mean, it was clear long ago that the makers of these movies (plus Giger) were terrified of women and reproduction, but the alien baby...

Feh. Ah, well. So many other movies, so little time.

If you're taking the Whedon screenplay as a good thing, don't bother. He's said all over the place that the movie as released contains very little of his script, and what is there was mucked up by the director.

I feel like, on paper, this movie should have been amazing. The talent involved was certainly stellar, but it just didn't gel.
