vyoma, has some common sense advice for avoiding alligator attacks while in Florida:

"IF YOU LIVE IN FLORIDA, DON'T SWIM IN FRESH WATER...if you go in the water, you have effectively laid down upon a large, fine china platter, stuck a spring of parsley up your ass, and rung the dinner bell."
