It seems early for the geese to be molting, but there are very few goslings to give me context. The adults molt their flight feathers right as the chicks are growing theirs in, so they all can fly at about the same time.

I expect to see a lot of dead birds in the spring, but not so many adults. Kind of a weird year for it.

Awesome photos.

I've seen a lot of dead adult birds this spring as well, and was wondering what was up with that.

Our baby birds left the nest a couple of days ago and it was very traumatic -- one sittin' in the driveway, one plopped down in the middle of the road, the other two who-knows-where.

Nature!

Do you think it might be an early start to the West Nile season?

Possibly, but I kind of doubt it. There haven't been a lot of mosquitoes this year yet, and these aren't the classic wnv victims. Haven't seen any dead jays, crows, or raptors, just songbirds.
